Stimulants prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are often abused because they activate the mu-opioid receptor, which is associated with euphoria. It’s estimated that up to 35% of college-age adults are using stimulants without a prescription. A new study has found that co-administration of naltrexone with a stimulant can weaken the euphoric effect, which may reduce their abuse potential. #MassGeneralAdvances
